Consul General of the DRC in Antwerp received at IPIS

On Tuesday 8 September 2026, H.E. Pacifique Luabeya, Consul General of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Antwerp, held a working session with the research team of the International Peace Information Service (IPIS), led by its director, Mr Filip Reyniers.

IPIS is an independent research institute based in Antwerp, and a significant part of its work focuses on the DRC. Its research covers, among other things, the exploitation of natural resources and peacebuilding in the east of the country, the mapping of mining sites, and the traceability of minerals and their trade on the Antwerp market.

At the end of the meeting, IPIS announced that it would open its documentary archive to the Consulate General and said it was ready to put its expertise at the service of several of the Consulate’s projects, in particular the project on the Genocost, the Congolese genocide carried out for economic ends.

Through this meeting, the Consulate General is fully in line with the Congolese Government’s policy of adding value to the country’s natural resources: exploitation that respects the rights of local populations and local processing, for the benefit of the DRC and Congolese people. In this respect, IPIS is a key partner in implementing this policy.
